Management & Engineering Staff
Technical Marine Service was founded by Dan Gray and Dennis Jackson in January of 1987.
Technical Marine Service specializes in the engineering, installation and service of Marine Control systems. TMS has been involved with ships’ control systems with an install base of over 30 boiler control systems on commercial and government vessel main propulsion boilers. TMS has also worked on main propulsion diesel and diesel electric control systems throughout our history.
TMS has in depth experience, understanding and qualifications in providing a complete solution to our customers and of what it takes to provide the next level in the hardware and software development.
TMS engineering staff is composed primarily of marine engineers. Four engineers have steam and/or diesel of any horsepower USCG engineering licenses. Three of these are chief engineer’s licenses. One of the big advantages is that these folks know how to design a system with the end operating engineer in mind. TMS provides designs and solutions that are “engineer-friendly”.
Key Engineering Personnel
Dan Gray, Owner and Director of Engineering
Mr. Gray co-founded the company in 1987 and has been directly responsible for designing many of the automation systems and instrumentation products developed and installed, including the System 2000 Boiler automation and combustion control system that has been installed in over 30 commercial, government and military steamships. The demand for Mr. Gray’s in-depth knowledge and experience with steam plants has taken him around the world on troubleshooting jobs and speaking engagements.
Dan Elsner, Senior Engineer
Mr. Elsner has been with TMS since 1990 serving as Senior Engineer, Field Engineer, in-house engineer, project manager and designer. Mr. Elsner has direct experience with various marine controls including GE, TANO, General Regulator, Bailey, Hagan, Copes-Vulcan, Fisher, Leslie and Mason-Neelian systems. Prior to joining TMS, Mr. Elsner developed his expertise over a span of 22 years, starting as an industrial maintenance electrician and advancing through various positions including Field Service Technician, Shop Manager, and Supervisor/Mechanical designer in both shoreside and marine settings.
